We hope you find the following information about travel to and around Antigua useful when planning your stay in Jolly Harbour. It is possible to walk everywhere in Jolly Harbour from the villa, for example the supermarket is only 10 minutes walk (and they will lend you a trolley to wheel your heavy shopping back home), but sometimes in the heat, other options may be preferred. Please follow the menu below for details of transport options in the resort.
Air, Taxi , Shuttle Bus , Golf Buggy , Boats , Car Hire
Air Most visitors travel to Antigua by air to St John’s V.C. Bird Airport (although one brave lady did row single handed from the UK in 2006 – we think this is a little extreme for most families). We have provided a list of international air carriers below, with links to their booking systems so that you can find a flight to suit your needs. Flights can also be taken to other islands in the Caribbean during your stay, if desired. It is also possible to take helicopter flights for sightseeing around Antigua. To top

Taxi You will need to take a taxi from the airport to Jolly Harbour (around 20 minutes drive). When you clear passport control there are many porters available to help you with your luggage. They provide the fastest way of getting you a taxi, they will scoot you through customs and take you straight to the taxi controller, just outside the airport arrivals building (please remember to tip!). Just tell the taxi controller that you need to go to Jolly Harbour, to Villa 250B on South Finger and ask for a price (in $EC or $US). The driver will then drop you at the Villa itself.
If you want to visit places outside Jolly Harbour, a taxi is often the cheapest option. Also, if you are worried about driving and finding your way around, it’s often almost the same price to hire a taxi and driver for the day as to renting a car. This is a great way for getting you around to all the best places, without the stress or hassle of driving yourself – plus you get a commentary from a local resident about the island and the people who live there. Taxis can be booked locally by phone usually without too much notice. To top
Shuttle Bus There is a minibus that drives around the resort during the day. This will pick you up from designated stops that you will notice as you go around the resort (there is one right outside our villa!). It will drop you pretty much anywhere you ask along the route. Tickets for the shuttle bus are sold at the Jolly Harbour Reception Office in the centre of the resort shopping centre. They are usually available as a punch card, good for either 10 or 40 journeys. Golf Buggies Golf buggies are a popular option for getting around the resort and for lugging shopping back to the villas. They are easy to drive and quite economical, available for hire on usually on a weekly basis. See link below. To top

Car Hire Car rental on a daily or weekly basis is also available for those wanting to go further a field and explore this beautiful island. The usual big names have offices in Jolly Harbour and we have also listed a number of local companies, whose cars are maybe not as pristine but are much more cost effective. If you do hire a car you will have to obtain an Antigua Driving Licence. This lasts for 3 months, the car hire company will usually take you to the Police Station in Bolans (2 minutes from Jolly Harbour) where you need to take your home driving licence and passport and of course pay the fee (around $40EC in 2006). Driving in Antigua is an adventure as the roads are extremely poor, sometimes without tarmac, there are few signposts and plenty of goats! To top

Boats Jolly Harbour is heaven for anyone wanting to go out on the water. Villa 250B is ideally positioned with waterfront access and a pontoon that can accommodate boats up to 40ft long. Our location is ideal as we are situated down the quietest, most sheltered stretch of water in the marina – making mooring up and setting off much less stressful than for other villas in more exposed positions. You can hire both motor and sailing boats by the day or by the week, with or without a skipper, depending on your boating experience. There are reputedly 365 beaches in Antigua, and nothing beats visiting them by boat! To top
